Aromatherapy
seems to give a nicer dimension to peoples lives; it can work to soften the rough
edges of daily life. Can you talk about how in every day life aromatherapy can take the
stress out?
Essential oils contain unique healing properties. With a bit of
education, a user can develop blends that address not only stress (the result of a
problem) but the problem as well. If the stress is being caused by insomnia, emotional
distress, physical pain, different blends can help. This way you can address the causes
and effects of stress. Also between baths, diffusers, room sprays, vaporizers, massages
you have a variety of ways of getting the benefits of using essential oils into your home
and body.
Sue:
Aromatherapy is a relatively new idea. We see it gaining popularity through the large
sales candles and potpourri. How do essential oils differ from these two mainstream
notions of aromatherapy? What do they bring to one's life that candles and potpourri may
not?
 Actually
aromatherapy has been practiced since the beginning of time. There are over 180
references to essential oils in the Bible, so this therapy has been used as far back
as then.
Aromatherapy has been actively practiced in every country in the world to some degree. It
seems like it is a new idea because the United States is actually one of the last
countries to embrace the benefits of essential oils. My number one statement to consumers
is: Educate yourself. However, if people don't have the time or interest to educate
themselves, a quick rule of thumb is: "If it does not say essential oils, than it is
not aromatherapy, and thus, has no healing effect." Many potpourri, candles, soaps,
bath salts, etc. that are seen at department stores and specialty shops do NOT contain
essential oils, they contain "extracts, fragrances, flavorings, etc." these are
NOT essential oils and have no healing effect. However, keep in mind that if a particular
fragrance (like chocolate chip cookies, lilac bushes, etc.) bring an individual
satisfaction, then they should enjoy them but NOT expect any healing benefits.
