"Pearl Harbor"

It has explosive special effects, stellar actors, and a gripping story.

The year is 1941, months before the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Rafe (Ben Affleck) and his boyhood best friend Danny (Josh Hartnett) are pilots training to get into the U.S. Army. Rafe falls for Army nurse Evelyn (Kate Beckinsale) and a romance blossoms. But the European battlefields are calling for troops. Rafe volunteers to fight in England, where World War II is under way. (It is only a matter of time before the United States will become embroiled in it.) Evelyn and Danny are both stationed in Hawaii. They become friends. A twist of fate makes the love story even more compelling, while one of the biggest events in WWII unfolds.

Affleck proves that he’s the ideal leading man. His character is richly developed, displaying courage as an action hero and charisma as a love interest. He gives a deeply emotional performance. Fledgling stars Beckinsale and Hartnett complete the picture with their touching portrayals. Powerful human emotions drive "Harbor" into our hearts. Its amazing action sequences threw me into the time period. Both elements make WWII come to vivid life.

The film’s special effects were incredible. I felt like I was in "Harbor," with its panorama of fighter planes flying through clouds and panicked nurses rushing around a crowded hospital. It enveloped me with its intense atmospherics, taking me on an emotional roller coaster ride. One of the most poignant moments included people’s hands poking out of a bombed ship, grappling for someone to rescue them. There is no way to avoid feeling intense empathy during this scene.

"Pearl Harbor" is riveting because it demonstrates American patriotism. I gained insight into how brave our WWII soldiers and nurses were in spite of this tremendous tragedy. "Harbor" successfully captures this fearful and unique time for a new generation to appreciate.

"Pearl Harbor" is a wartime masterpiece.

"The Mummy Returns," is the sequel to the 1998 hit, "The Mummy". Rick (Brendan Fraser) and Evelyn O’Connell (Rachel Weiz), now married in this sequel, are unwrapping more mysteries in Egypt. These Egyptologists are looking for the gold bracelet of the Scorpion King. The bracelet possesses the power to resurrect the Scorpion King’s massive army.
