 Sue:
Pam Waterman, a professional writer and contributing editor to Desktop
Engineering magazine, has written a terrific activity book for all 2-6 year olds called
The Absolute Best Play Days. Pam's wonderful book is sure to keep
your children busy and learning- all at the same time!! She has grouped activities
according to themes. Pam gives us everything for your child to do that goes with the
theme- arts and crafts, titles of books and videos, music, and even snacks!
Each of her 52 themed activities is good for a week's worth
of fun. This is one clever and fun book for the whole family.
Theme
Days
revolve around one idea at a time- whether its dinosaurs or detectives,
schooldays or birthdays. Pam originally came up with these ideas so that her
college-age sitter could keep her three children (then ages 6,3,1) happy while she worked
in her home office. All the books she'd seen either addressed many things for, say,
just two year olds to do ( not challenging for the older ones), or just one type of
activity (e.g. crafts) for a range of ages (not enough for more than one hour's play).
Pam decided to find lots of things for lots of ages to do together,
and the idea grew into family project. From there, Pam's friends who claimed
to be "creatively impaired" said it was just what they needed, and their
children enjoyed with helping Pam created this book.
I thank Pam for taking time out of her busily creative schedule to chat with me about her
fabulous children's book the Absolute Best Play Days : ).
"theme"
activities
Sue:
In your book The Absolute Best Play Days you center your activities around a
given theme like airplanes, I love it : ). You include the crafts, music, and even snacks
that would go with the theme. What gave you this idea to "theme" activities as
opposed to having just crafts that the kids would make?
