Sue:
Thanks for taking the time to chat with me : ). Boy, every book is a gem,
including this one. Your book Crafts from your Favorite Fairy tales is so charming and
wonderful, you have a terrific imagination : )! The crafts are delightful. As a
child what was your favorite fairy tale and why?
 Kathy:
My favorite fairy tale?
That is tough. I really had more then one favorite. Loved "Snow White and Rose
Red"...I think it was the bear. I'm hopeless over large (and small!) furry animals.
Actually one of my dogs is named Bear. I also liked "Rapunzel" with all her
long, blond hair.
Sue:
I noticed in your book's dedication that your sister Bootsie was mentioned.
What kinds of make believe and fairy tale stories did the two of you like to act out?
Kathy:
My sister Bootsie (I'm supposed to call her Lee in public!), my brother Ricky and
I did elaborate shows in the upstairs rooms of our barn. We actually had a stage and
theatre seats. We now are doing a children's show together using the public access studio
of Time Warner. It took us a year to finish our first segment, but we are having great
fun. I'm Crafty Kitty, my sister is Auntie Boo with her magic wand and my brother is Rick
the Giant. We want our older sister, Jeanie, to come down sometime and do a scene or two
with us. We had two ponds behind our house with an old barn door raft and a deserted
flatbed wagon on the bank which led to all sorts of traveling games that always involved
catching many, many frogs. We did release them before heading home.
Another favorite was wagon train. We had barrel's on top of
our wagons and tied the wagons all together. It would always fizzle out when no one would
agree to be the horse one more time.
Sue:
Every time I read one of your great craft books I find new, exciting and
fresh activity ideas. How do you create and imagine such inventive, beautiful yet
simple crafts for children to make?
Kathy:
I have to admit that my crafts are simple because that is the only kind I can do.
It is a mystery to the entire family that everyone knits, sews, crochets, needlepoints,
etc. except me, who finds adult crafts much too difficult. We think I have some of my
father's engineering skills. I like to design a craft. I like to think about what I want
to make, what it should do and then find an easy way to make it. I can't believe this is
my job! I get paid for this! Wow!
