![]() What do you believe is our society's current view on perimenopause and
menopause? Will it evolve? If so, what do you feel will be the catalyst for
this change? Sadly, even some doctors ignore the significance and profound effect of
hormonal changes preceding actual cessation of periods. However, Baby Boomers are
doing a good job of educating their doctors on the need for more and safer options. By the
time their daughters enter midlife they will have a great deal of choice based on their
individual health concerns. There will also be increased acknowledgement of the
significance of each woman's unique response to medical interventions. The result will be
greater individualization of treatment. While SERMS (medications that provide benefits
with reduced side effects) may be a part of this, so will the use of vitamins, minerals,
and herbs as doctors are exposed to the research that proves their efficacy.Since Baby Boomers are healthier than generations before them, the concept of aging will change. Viewing menopause as a disease and as a time of closure will be replaced by a creative reframing. A woman's biology will no longer be the ruling force in how she lives the last one-third of her life. |
