"I'm in perimenopause and desperate to try anything to feel better!!
What can I do?
I've tried progesterone cream and black cohosh too."
Taming hot
flashes
and other perimenopausal symptoms
 can be harder or easier
depending on the woman. In the hot flash area, there are some who merely have a
strong blush every day or so. Then there are others who have disrupted
sleep, lots of irritability and a general sense of feeling terrible.
This is because every women has different hormone levels and they will each "do their
own thing", so to speak.
Perimenopause is like a moving target
With this in mind, it can be very difficult
for you, who is trying desperately to reclaim her life and finding it to be very
difficult. It's hard to say whether the cream, black
cohosh or HRT is working. A
large part of this is because perimenopause is like a moving target. This means that
one day you might feel great and say boy, that cream etc... is really working. On the
other hand, you might have other days where you are " doing everything right"
and still you're miserable . With most women, it perimenopause requires a multidimensional
program to feel well. This means changes in what you
eat/drink, giving up cigarettes, avoiding alcohol, more exercise etc..
It also means talking with your health care provider about
how you are feeling, what your family history of illnesses like osteoporosis,
heart disease and what your
medical condition is right now.

HotFlash FAQ:
How can birth control pills help
symptoms of perimenopause?
There is a whole new group of BCPs like
Loestrin that were created especially for women over 35 years of age. Not only do
they function to help with the often disruptive symptoms of perimenopause, they work as an
effective means of birth control. They contain just enough estrogen and progesterone
to prevent pregnancies and help with perimenopause. Find out more.
