Do
you remember your mother telling you to drink more milk when you are pregnant? She
lectured that since you are pregnant that you are drinking for two? Well, the latest
research indicates that it is unnecessary for pregnant women to take in more calcium. Two
studies have found that during pregnancy a woman's body naturally works to make the
calcium that she does take in from foods like milk, yogurt, cheese, and green leafy
vegetables more absorbable. This happens irregardless of the calcium intake. If she
doesn't eat enough calcium rich foods, than her body will take calcium from her bones. It
is best if a pregnant woman, like all adults, consume at least 1,000 milligrams of calcium
every day.
