Keepsakes (or travel snapshots)
can rest in a decorated box...

  • holm.jpg (4403 bytes)Start with a sturdy box with a good lid.
  • If it does not have an attractive background color, paint it with white primer.
  • Decorate it with a collage of gift wrap, wallpaper, cut out pictures, photos, perhaps with memorabilia ( tickets, maps, notes, an autograph...).
  • If you are making this treasure box as a gift for someone, try to think of what kinds of colors and patterns that person would like.
  • You can also decorate the box with fabrics, laces, ribbons, decorative cord, sequins...

holmboxes.jpg (7312 bytes)The heart shaped box was from a paper mache box from a craft store.  The other two boxes were inexpensive pencil boxes from the school supplies section of a drug store, and spray painted first with white primer.  The heart box was decorated with paper napkins, while the other two boxes were decorated with pictures from magazines, from flower catalogs, and with gold foil gift wrap.  These were done by kids ranging in age from eight to fourteen.
